Renesas: Super-Low-Power 16-Bit Microcontroller with high resolution A/D-Converter Ö now available

The H8/38086R is the first member of the new H8/300H-Super-Low-Power seriesseries to have high resolution analogue circuitry on chip. In this case, the H8/38086R has a on-chip 14-bit Sigma-delta Analogue to Digital converter system.

The H8/38086R is designed to provide an extremely low power, highly integrated, high performance solution for a wide range of power conscious applications.

The on chip 14-bit ADC system, including an on chip voltage reference and programmable gain amplifier, makes the device ideal for measuring many physical properties, which has in the past need external A/D converters. The ADC features a none-linearity of ± 238µV (typically at 3V) and a conversion time between 76 and 1.280 µs.

The combination of the powerful 16-bit H8/300H CPU core with on-chip flash memory and powerful ADC combined with extremely low power consumption, make the H8/38086R the perfect solution for many applications including heat and water meters, heat allocators, portable medical equipment such as thermometers and blood analysers, flow meters where a high accuracy measurement solution is required. The current consumption in active mode is between 400µA and 1,1mA. In watch mode the current goes down to to 0,4µA allowing smaller batteries or higher live-times for battery powered systems.

The H8/38086R is available in a number of package options, the recommended package, the 14 mm² QFP-80A, a space saving TQFP package, and a new 85 pin Land Grid array package, the LGA-85, designed for the smallest footprint.

To evaluate the features of this new device MSC offers a starter kit including the H8/38086R Evaluation Board with LCD-module, E8 Debugger and HEW4 IDE for EUR 399,00.
