High-Speed SXGA CMOS Image Sensor for Machine Vision

The new high-sensitivity, high-speed SXGA (Super Extended Graphics Array) resolution LUPA-1300-2 CMOS sensor offers a triggered and pipelined synchronous shutter and 10-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling) outputs. A programmable offset and gain amplifier for each channel of these outputs is integrated. All internal exposure and read-out timings are generated by an on-board sequencer.

The 1.3-megapixel image sensor features a high frame rate of 500 frames-per-second (fps) with a resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels and 14µm x 14 µm pixel size. With the windowing capability the user is able to read out only regions of interest and increasing the effective frame rate.

The synchronous snapshot shutter makes it possible to read one image while the next is being acquired and to capture moving objects without distortion. It also has a multiple slope capability to maintain good contrast in shadowed regions without saturating bright areas in scenes with a high contrast ratio.

Prototype samples of the LUPA-1300-2 are currently available in monochrome (CYIL2SM1300AA-GDC) with an RGB version in development, production devices are expected in 2008.
