Does your car need a new motor?

Fiction …
Imagine, you drive a well preserved BMW with a 4-cylinder
motor. But newly everybody talks about the better and more economical 6-cylinder
motors from BMW, which makes the old one obsolete. Wouldn’t it be good to
simply replace your old engine against the new one without changing the rest of
the car at minimum cost?
… and reality
What in the world of cars sounds like fiction is still
reality in Atmel‘s world of ARM MCUs.
You use proven AT91SAM7S Flash MCUs with built in ARM7TDMI™
“motor”, but are looking for an upgrade for reasons of more performance and
lower power consumption without changing your existing PCB Layout (*)? This is
not feasible?
Well, it will work ! And you will get not only about double
system performance but in addition “automatic gear” and a state of the art
“navigation system” for free.

The new ATSAM3S Flash MCU Family
... in it‘s 48- and 64-in package is pin- und function
compatible to well introduced AT91SAM7S products.
SAM3S offers a 64 MHz Cortex™-M3 Core (with MPU) and a couple
of new or re-newed peripherals, like 12-bit ADC, 12-bit DAC, Quadrature Encoder,
4-phase PWM with dead time generator, High-Speed flashcard interface, USARTs
with new SPI and Manchester Mode, I²C (TWI) Modul with DMA, battery backed-up up
RTC and much more.
Memory up to 1MB Flash at 128K SRAM and a 100-pin version with external 8-bit
bus will be available. In addition you will have, even though same package, more
I/Os (not 5 V tolerant), because pin multiplexing is expanded to former
dedicated analog- or JTAG- pins.
If you only need a simple set of peripherals and no USB, you may migrate to
SAM7S compatible and low-cost ATSAM3N Family.
QTouch® buttons, slider and wheels are supported by Atmel‘s free QTouch Library.

Packet and AT91SAM3N-Startup Packet consisting of
AT91SAM3S-EK respectively ATSAM3N-EK and AT91SAM-ICE JTAG interface.
Both kits have all relevant interfaces on-board as well as a
TFT with capacitive buttons and slider.
A very extensive software package, schematics, BOM,
gerberfiles etc. are ready for your employment.
